‘CAMPVENTURE’ was founded in Lucerne in 1995 by Loris Wetter, then under the name ‘Camprep’.
‘Camprep’ was a workshop for campervans and caravans. The company also included a small camping shop for basic camping needs.
Loris Wetter completed an apprenticeship to become a certified boat builder and followed this with four years’ professional experience. As a child, Loris Wetter spent all his family holidays on campsites. As his father was a skilled handyman, he was able to carry out small repairs and maintenance on their caravan and later their motorhome himself. Loris always helped him with this. When Loris Wetter saw an empty workshop being advertised in 1990, he seized the opportunity to work for himself. To begin with, he overhauled boats and occasionally repaired caravans, but enquiries about caravans and motorhomes kept increasing. By 1995, camping vehicles made up 80% of his revenue, causing Loris Wetter to establish ‘Camprep’.
In 2005, ‘Camprep’ started to market different brands (Adria, Knaus, etc.) and went on to sell its first caravans and motorhomes. Demo models were hired out, but these rentals were intended to be more than just a sideline. By the end of the 2010s, demand was continuing to increase and was stretching ‘Camprep’ to its limits in terms of capacity. It had a full order book for repairs, but the rentals had also grown to the point that Loris Wetter faced having to choose between the two areas of the business. During a conversation with his best friend Tabea Parzel, who had completed an apprenticeship to become a certified specialist in customer relations, they came up with the idea of ‘CAMPVENTURE’. Loris Wetter wasn’t that confident in sales and customer service, so focussed on the repairs, while Tabea Parzel dealt with the selling and hiring of camping vehicles. And so, the company ‘CAMPVENTURE’ was founded in 2018.
The coronavirus pandemic in 2020 caused the demand for campervan hire to explode. Fortunately, ‘CAMPVENTURE’ responded quickly to the increasing demand by ordering and receiving a large quantity of vehicles before supply became an issue.
The customer service department offers advice and rents out the camping vehicles exclusively by telephone. When an order is placed, the vehicle can be viewed at ‘CAMPVENTURE’, although, as demand is so high, it cannot be guaranteed that the customer can swap the vehicle after viewing it. The quote given by the customer service department is binding.
